“The acting major combines a strong traditional acting training with innovative units in comedy, acting for TV and film, solo performance, marketing and styling. Combining instruction from top local teachers with the best in Australia, as well as performance opportunities every term, this course sets you up for an exciting career within contemporary dance. “The contemporary dance major combines traditional dance with new concepts. With courses in song-writing, production, and performing, you leave the course with a CD recorded, and a career path set,” Dr Cashman says. “The Popular Music major prepares you for a career in the industry. He says applicants should submit a QTAC application and either attend an interview/audition or submit an audition video. Creativity and creative industries are becoming more and more significant,” Dr Cashman says. Students will also be able to incorporate units from other CQUniversity disciplines.
He says a ‘Creative Industries’ stream will include “the things you need to know in addition to being a great artist to help you learn a living, including arts business, grant writing, communication and research”. Students will have the chance to get together to create an arts project and gain real-life industry experience. “Our new course is about how to create art and how to turn that art into a career.”ĭr Cashman says an ‘Arts Practice’ stream will include face-to-face instruction each week and public performance opportunities each term. “Creative Arts combines the intense arts practice you need to be a successful artist with knowledge of the creative industries, so you can earn a living in the arts,” Dr Cashman says. Head of Creative Arts Associate Professor David Cashman says creative industries employ more than 500,000 Australians and creativity and creative thinking will be the ‘sought-after skills of the 21st Century’.ĭr Cashman announced that CQUniversity Cairns will offer the new Bachelor of Creative Arts, with majors in Popular Music, Contemporary Dance and Acting, and exit options at Diploma and Associate Degree levels. The Bachelor of Creative Arts will be an industry-focused arts degree combining high-level reflective arts practice with developing business acumen and understanding of the creative industry which students will eventually join.
With creative industries creating more jobs than mining, CQUniversity says it’s worth making a song and dance about a new course approved for its Cairns Square campus next year.
